Extracurriculars: reading, writing poetry

Why are you studying biology?

"I really have always loved to write. In high school, I was in poetry club. I just love any type of writing –essays too, which I know is kind of weird– but I enjoy it. I have a dedicated journal that I write my poetry in, it was a gift from my eighth grade writing teacher. I want to travel the world and write stories, and I hope someday that those can be published in magazines and newspapers."

What objects in your dorm represent your identity or home life?

"Oh, one of the biggest things is the stuffed animals. Because my girlfriend Amira and I would always randomly buy each other stuffed animals. I’ve kept all of them. Pictures too, paintings and notes. I have this really raggedy blanket, and I've had it since I was a baby. I literally can't remember the last time I slept without it. I also have very clearly, my pride flag, and fake plants. I don't know why, but I have a fake plant obsession. So it's all these little elements that makes it feel like I know it's my room."

What are you struggling with?

"I don't know if I'm necessarily having any struggles academically, because I was get things done early because I don't like waiting for the last minute. In terms of social life, I've been struggling a little bit more. Especially in the beginning of the year, I had difficulty making friends because it's like a reset. In high school, I had all my friends and our little group, and then I was put into a new environment. And I was like, wait, I forgot how to make friends."
