Why are you studying film/television?

"I feel silly thinking about my Film/TV origins, because I truly got into it using iMovie on my mom's phone when I was nine. That was my favorite thing to do, directing all my friends around, and making little movies. As I got older, I started to appreciate narrative storytelling, music and visual arts. Film is kind of a synthesis of those things, so that's why I went into it."

What objects in your dorm represent your identity or home life?

"I have all my favorite artists on posters. Velvet Underground is my dad's favorite band that he played around me a lot as a child. Also Stereo Lab, and Parliament Funkadelic. Music listening is a big hobby of mine, so having these and my record player here feels very much like my space. My poor mother helped me haul this all the way to Boston, but it was very worth it. It helps me create a nice ambiance."

What are you struggling with?

"I think coming to college, I experienced a kind of social anxiety that I hadn't before. It's daunting, coming into a big school. You see people are starting to make friendships. And naturally, you compare yourself to other people and their bonds and it's like, oh, why haven't I found that for myself? Even though I don't really know what's going on there. I'm still finding my balance in terms of like, who are my people here? And I know that it's a long process. Reminding myself that it's a temporary thing has been really helpful, putting it into perspective that we're only 1/16th of the way through college. There's so much that's going to change as time goes by."

College can be hardStudent Wellbeing provides support for Boston University students with resources, like the one below:

"Student Wellbeing is delighted to be partnering with Undergraduate Affairs and the BU Hub to bring a new cocurricular course to life.  This Hub cocurricular (HUB CC 127) is designed especially for first-year students... Students will have the opportunity to reflect on and talk about their experiences at BU in real-time with their peers, specifically how they’re finding their way in the classrooms, residence halls, dining halls, labs, social spaces and more!"
